Man I miss The Insiders Guide to Happiness

Man I miss the mid-2000s NZ TV drama The Insiders Guide to Happiness. Which is especially weird seeing as to this day I haven’t even watched an episode. All I remember was that the picture had a weird blue hue to it. This was some extreme forward thinking by the writers as they knew this would look good on the actors’ show-reels when they audition for the Avatar sequels that are being filmed in New Zealand. This is despite The Insiders Guide to Happiness finishing 4 years before the movie Avatar got released.
Its influence on other local shows can’t be denied. Before there was Agent Anna on Outrageous Fortune, there was a female character on The Insiders Guide to Happiness. Before there was the energy saving tips guy on The Almighty Johnsons, there was a male character on The Insiders Guide to Happiness. Before there was ambulance driver Rangi on Nothing Trivial, there was a Maori guy on The Insiders Guide to Happiness (probably).
The show wasn’t without controversy however, as people are divided whether it was Insiders or Insider’s plus the general public wondered if the 13 episodes made were 12 episodes too many.
And if you think I’m mocking, I’m not, as it got 8.7 out of 10 on IMDB. Although that rating was only from one person and it was most likely to be main cast member Ben Barrington. The show was followed by a prequel Insiders Guide to Love which documented how Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side.
In the end it’s good they were all giving it a go and I will be giving everything a good go, first on Twitter @spat106 and also in my show An Effort to Impress. See you there.
